More tests for Covid-19 to be carried out in Jersey
Testing for Covid-19 is being expanded in Jersey.
From early next week, there will be an increase in both PCR tests, which establish whether someone currently has the virus, and serology tests, which can see if someone has had the virus and developed antibodies.
Essential workers will be tested first including:
Patient-facing health and care workers in all settings (including hospital, care homes, ambulance, hospice, family nursing and home care workers)
Police, fire and prison officers
Allied health and social care workers
Customs and immigration staff
Funeral directors
These islanders will be notified on how to book a test at either the Five Oaks testing centre, the newly-opened testing centre in the old Aircargo Centre car park next to Jersey Airport, or in their workplace via a mobile testing unit.
They are expected to receive their results within 48 hours. If they test positive, a contact tracing process will follow.
