Jersey's Swimarathon raises £55,000 despite no swimming taking place
Jersey's Swimarathon raises more than £55,000 despite no swimming taking place.
The money raised from this year's event will go towards helping local charities who are struggling due to their own fundraising efforts being affected by coronavirus.
Organisers were forced to call the event off hours before it should have started, following the first confirmed case of coronavirus in the island.
The Jersey Lions' Swimarathon should have seen 3,500 swimmers take part in the five day fundraising event.
This year's five chosen charities will remain the main beneficiaries for next year's 50th Swimarathon, which will take place from Wednesday 3 to Sunday 7 March 2021.
The five charities are:
Brighter Futures
Brightly
Jersey Youth Trust
Teenage Cancer Trust
