Guernsey moves into phase three of lockdown

Guernsey is moving in to phase three of lockdown a week earlier than originally expected, and some elements of phase four will also be introduced.

The news comes as the island marks 15 days since the last new diagnosisof Covid-19, with only seven confirmed cases still currently active.

From 00:01am on 16 May, more businesses will be able to function on a limited basis, and "bubbles" can be extended.

Government officials say the island's progress so far has "exceeded expectations".

What can we expect to see now?

  • Indoor building allowed to take place

  • Takeaways can reopen including those within hotels, restaurants and bars

  • Childminders can now operate under certain circumstances

  • Places of worship can open to private prayer

  • A maximum of ten people can now attend weddings and funerals

  • Public toilets reopen

  • Bubbles can now contain four households

  • Non-essential retailers (garden centres, cycle shops, sports shops and those selling clothes and shoes for children) will be reopened on a pilot basis

How to progress to level four

  • No new cases of Covid-19 from unexplained community transmission in the previous consecutive eight weeks

  • No new clusters of infections that pose an ongoing threat to the Bailiwick

  • Hospital admissions for Covid-19 are stable or declining

  • The continued availability of local testing for the virus that causes Covid-19

Further changes, including introducing outdoor dining and increasing recreational time, are expected in two weeks.
