Jersey politician spotted drinking wine in virtual meeting

A Jersey Deputy has been spotted drinking what appears to be wine during a States meeting.

At several points during the two hour long Scrutiny Hearing, held via video call at 2:30pm last Tuesday (5 May), Deputy Scott Wickenden can be seen reaching for a wine glass immediately after speaking.

When asked for a comment about the behaviour of Deputy Wickenden - who is also an Assistant Chief Minister and the Assistant Minister for Social Security - the Chief Minister sent this:

When asked about if any action will be taken, Deputy Russell Labey - who is the Chairman of the Privileges and Procedures Committee - said his committee would only act if a complaint was made. So far, none have been received.

If one was to be made, this would go to the Commissioner for Standards who would decide whether or not to proceed with it. If they did, it would then be up to the Committee to decide on the appropriate action, including any sanctions.
