Island-wide testing 'on hold' in Jersey

Plans to test the whole population in Jersey for coronavirus have been put on hold.

The Health Minister today (11 May) said the change in policy followed a statistically robust sample testing of 855 people from 438 households last week, which showed a projected 3,300 people could already have been exposed to the virus.

Deputy Richard Renouf says a repeat of the sampling approach would be given priority.

The Chief Executive of the government, Charlie Parker, had previously announced plans for islandwide testing with pop up testing stations in parishes, after an order for 150,000 antibody tests was placed.

Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondré , says those testing kits would be held back to be used on a more strategic basis in the coming weeks and months.
