Guernsey FA hopeful of no 'significant delay' to start of 2020/21 season
The Guernsey Football Association says it is hopeful there will not be a "significant delay" to the start of the 2020/21 season.
It is after the States of Guernsey published its 'Exit from Lockdown' framework in full, which suggests contact team sports including football could be allowed to resume by the middle of August.
Guernsey's 2019/20 season was declared null and void by the GFA and Guernsey Football League Management board at the end of March, while Jersey's domestic leagues were decided on a points-per-game basis.
"The GFA is working closely with the Guernsey Sports Commission to ensure that any decisions taken about the resumption of football are in accordance with the Sports Commission’s Exit Strategy for Sport", GFA chief executive Gary Roberts said.
"However, we can now begin to look forward to football resuming and the planning we have been doing over the past 8 weeks can move towards being implemented over the coming months."
The GFA has also announced measures to support local clubs next season, including waiving affiliation fees, allowing free entry into all GFA cup competitions, and covering the cost of public liability insurance for affiliated clubs.
"All of these measures [are] designed to save some of the annual costs for local clubs and help clubs to be ready for the start of the season", Mr Roberts said.
"We look forward to working with the clubs, GFLM and our various and invaluable sponsors to ensure that the 2020/21 season will be a successful one for all involved in the game."
