'It was the making of Guernsey FC' - The trophy that changed island football

Ten years ago this weekend, Guernsey's footballers secured a result which would change the face of the local game.

On Saturday 1 May 2010, the island squad - led by manager Tony Vance - beat the Liverpool County Premier League 5-2 in front of more than 2,000 supporters to lift the FA National League System Cup.

Not only did it earn them the chance to represent England in the Uefa Regions Cup, but it also set the wheels in motion for an island club to compete in the non-league pyramid.

Just 14 months after lifting that trophy at the Track, Guernsey FC welcomed AFC Wimbledon to the island as the newly-formed club prepared to make its debut in English league football.
