Calls to Childline increase during lockdown

Calls to Childline have increased significantly during the coronavirus pandemic according to NSPCC.

Michelle Green, NSPCC’s Channel Islands' representative, told ITV News that they are receiving multiple calls from children frightened about what the future holds.

Young people have also been calling about problems at home and struggling with their mental health.

For some children, school had become their safe haven - a chance to escape the worries that come with life at home.

With schools shut in Guernsey and Jersey, that safe place has now gone.

Childline say across their service they have seen counselling sessions increase by over a third.

They are reminding islanders that they are still there for children, and urging people to donate to the charity.
