All Jersey coronavirus deaths among over 60s

All 19 of the confirmed deaths from Covid-19 in Jersey are among the over 60s, and seven of them died in care homes.

Of the reported deaths, so far, four were aged over 90, six were in their 80s, seven in their 70s, and two in their 60s.

The details emerged as the government bowed to growing pressure to follow the UK and Guernsey in releasing more details about those who have died.

Nine died at the General Hospital, two at St Saviour’s, and one in their own home.

The Chief Minister today also confirmed there had been positive coronavirus cases in seven care homes in Jersey, but declined to say in how many deaths had occurred.

Deaths are currently only those registered with the Superintendent Registrar. Some deaths need to be investigated by the Viscount’s Department which means the registration will take place at a later date.

A death that does not need to go through that process will normally appear in the official statistics within two to five days of a person dying.

Seven of those who died were women, 12 were men.
