Passenger numbers on Jersey's buses fall by 96%
LibertyBus in Jersey has seen a dramatic drop in the number of people using their buses.
Passenger numbers are down to just 4% of what they would usually be for this time of the year as a result of coronavirus measures.
People have been advised only to take essential journeys, and the boss of Liberty Bus believes passengers are adhering to advice.
LibertyBus says they are carrying out a number of measures to keep passengers and drivers safer:
Cleaning buses and Liberation Station more frequently
Marked out social distancing at Liberation Station
Displaying posters and guidance for handwashing and hygiene
Made the appropriate PPE available for all staff
Made hand sanitiser available for all staff
Blocked off the rows of seats nearest the driver
Stopped taking cash payments
Reduced services to discourage bus use and advised passengers that bus use is for essential journeys only
Ensure staff adhere to strict Government guidelines on self isolation and social distancing where possible
The bus company said they initially had some difficulties in ensuring they had enough face masks and hand sanitiser for all staff, but they have now sourced extra masks and sanitiser.
