The Guernsey company working 24 hours a day to make vital ventilator components
A Guernsey company which makes vital components for ventilators has moved to 24-hour production in response to the huge demand for its products during the coronavirus pandemic.
Intersurgical Guernsey Limited, which is based at Pitronnerie Road, moulds tubes and filters for the devices, which are used in the critical care of patients suffering with the disease.
Manufacturing manager David Inder said output at the factory has increased by more than a third, with 90,000 products a day leaving the premises, many of which destined for NHS hospitals.
The company says it has taken on 12 extra staff on short-term contracts to support 24-hour production, increasing its employee count to 117 in the last week.
Among them are people who have been laid off as a result of the restrictions put in place to limit the spread of the virus in the island.
Intersurgical, which was set-up in Guernsey, is a global manufacturer of respiratory equipment now headquartered in Wokingham in the UK.
