Seaweed sanitiser being made to help Guernsey healthcare

Seaweed from Guernsey is now being used to make government approved hand sanitiser.

Guernsey Seaweed has teamed up with a gin brewer to make the hand gel which, following lab tests last week, was authorised for manufacture and sale by the States of Guernsey.

The sanitiser will be used in care homes and by essential workers before being made available to the public.

A type of seaweed that is often found in cosmetics for its moisturising abilities is being mixed with 70% alcohol.

All profits made by the sanitiser will go to supporting St John Ambulance.
