Jersey court postpones trial because of coronavirus

Coronavirus is causing Jersey's courts to rethink the way they work temporarily.

One 'lengthy' assize trial, a trial carried out by a jury rather than Jurats, has already been postponed.

Some of the measures include postponing some jury trials, less judges in certain hearings and potentially dealing with some cases electronically.

Other measures being carried out:

  • Staff at the Royal court will be divided into two groups, located at separate ends of the building.

  • Some cases may be dealt with electronically

  • Stricter cleaning measures

  • Stricter deadlines for papers relating to court cases being submitted

  • Reserving the right to adjourn non essential trials
