Coronavirus: Anyone returning from Italy advised to self-isolate regardless of symptoms

Anyone returning to the Channel Islands from Italy is being advised to self-isolate, whether or not they have symptoms.

Jersey and Guernsey's government have both added the country to its list of those that require a 14-day self-isolation after visiting even without symptoms alongside:

  • Mainland China

  • Iran

  • South Korea

Many other countries are affected, but only currently require self-isolation if symptoms develop (fever, cough, difficult breathing). These are:

  • Cambodia

  • France

  • Germany

  • Hong Kong

  • Japan

  • Laos

  • Macau

  • Mainland Spain (not Balearic Islands or Canary Islands)

  • Malaysia

  • Myanmar

  • Singapore

  • Taiwan

  • Tenerife

  • Thailand

  • Vietnam

The advice is not to visit your GP or Emergency Department. Instead, you should call the Coronavirus helpline: 01534 445566 (Jersey) and 01481 756938 / 01481 756969 (Guernsey).

Anyone planning to travel to affected areas should check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) website for updates.
