World Book Day celebrations in the Channel Islands

Children from across the Channel Islands are today marking World Book Day.

Hundreds of youngsters will be dressing up as their favourite literary characters and taking part in activities.

The day, which aims to encourage a passion for reading, is marked in over 100 countries.

Last year Guernsey’s Government provided £300,000 to improve literacy after it was announced that the number of children needing support with literacy across the Bailiwick had increased by almost 40% in four years

Our very own Jess Dunsdon will be taking part in the event, reading a book to some primary school children with ITV Channel’s Oscar the Puffin.
