Changes to Guernsey's abortion laws to be voted on next month
Changes in Guernsey’s abortion laws are set to be voted on next month.
The Committee for Health and Social Care has published a policy letter outlining plans to modernise the island's 1997 abortion law.
If approved pregnant women in the island would be able to terminate pregnancies in the first 24 weeks, instead of the current 12 weeks.
President of the Committee - Heidi Soulsby - says extensive research has been carried out, indicating overwhelming support for change.
The policy letter also outlines changes to a number of other areas of the law:
Remove a requirement for a second medical practitioner
Remove the requirement in the law for medical abortions to take place only at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.
