New Capacity Law unanimously approved in Guernsey
Guernsey politicians have unanimously approved a new Capacity Law.
Its principal purpose is to empower people to make their own decisions wherever possible, and allow them to plan for the future.
It will also introduce Lasting Powers of Attorney, which means people will be able to register their wishes in advance or nominate others to act on their behalf when they lose capacity.
The development of the legislation has been one the Committee for Health & Social Care's top priorities in this political term, as part of the Discrimination and Inclusion Strategy.
The Law will now be finalised and published for States approval this political term, and will begin a phased implementation from next year.
