Cyril Le Marquand House could be transformed into housing, office space and small retail area

People in Jersey are being asked how they would like Cyril Le Marquand House to be redeveloped.

Since 1982 the site has been used as Government office space.

However the Government left the site as part of a plan to leave 14 offices and move staff into one new, central building.

New guildelines set out by the Environment Minister propose redeveloping the site into residential accommodation, office space and a small ground floor retail area.

The whole site is approximately 2,100 sqm.

The development brief says the key aims for the redevelopment are:

  • To regenerate and redevelop this site through high quality urban design.

  • Introducing new residential accommodation or office space, with potential for small-scale ground floor retail use.

  • To make a more positive contribution to the vitality of the area.

  • To enliven and improve the street scene and the adjacent public realm.

  • To positively accommodate development into the wider townscape of St Helier and make a positive contribution to the character of the town through development which is appropriately scaled with local architectural references.

  • To ensure the optimum development yield, in terms of number of homes, or office floorspace, through an urban design led approach which makes the best use of the site.

  • To promote and enable sustainable transport choices

Before moving forward with the plans, the Environment Minister would like to hear Islanders' views including:

  • What the site should be used for.

  • What form of development people want to see there.

  • How the development could support the local area.
