Jersey patient being tested for Coronavirus

Precautionary tests are being carried out to determine if a patient in Jersey has Coronavirus.

Health and Community Services say the person is being held 'in isolation' after they showed flu-like symptoms, having arrived from a country where there have been recorded cases of the virus.

The results of the tests will take around 48 hours, and the government is urging islanders to avoid speculation or worry.

620 tests have been carried out on people in the UK, of which three were positive at the time of writing.

Islanders who suspect they may have Coronavirus-like symptoms are asked not to come to the Emergency Department at Jersey General Hospital unannounced.

Anyone who has arrived from the following countries who develops symptoms of cough, fever or shortness of breath, should isolate themselves and contact their GP:

  • Mainland China

  • Thailand

  • Japan

  • Republic of Korea

  • Hong Kong

  • Taiwan

  • Singapore

  • Malaysia

  • Macau
