Bursaries offered to encourage female STEM students at Highlands College
An organisation is offering bursaries to women and girls studying in male-dominated subject areas at Jersey's Highlands College.
Soroptimist International Jersey Charitable Trust is offering three bursaries, each worth £1,500, to girls studying STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) courses post-GCSE.
The College hopes the bursaries will encourage more female students to take up its courses in automotive studies; building services; building trades; digital games development; IT; mechanical engineering and welding - all of which have historically had a majority male intake.
The bursaries can be used to pay for visits to other training institutions or to buy digital resources to help the students develop their skills.
Highlands' principal Jo Terry-Marchant says it is a fantastic opportunity for the three students to fulfill their potential.
