250 teachers meet unions over concerns on two-school model

Around 250 teachers and school staff have met with teaching unions in Guernsey to raise their concerns about the new two school model in the island.

The NASWUT were among several unions to meet with staff. They say their members voted overwhelmingly to support a motion to halt the current plans for the new system and look at alternatives.

It follows an open letter from staff at St Sampson's School who have heavily criticised the model.

The unions are set to meet tomorrow morning (23 January) to formulate a joint response that will then be put to the Education Committee.

Meanwhile over 2,500 people have signed an online petition calling for the development of the two-school model to be stopped.

In response to that, the President of the Education Committee says the creation of the petition was to be expected.
