Guernsey politician warns of 'vacuum' if Flybe ceases trading

A Guernsey politician has warned that the collapse of Flybe would create a 'vacuum' in the the island's air links in the short term.

Deputy Jan Kuttelwascher fears people could be left out of pocket and warned of disruption if the company ceased trading.

Flybe has been in crisis talks over its future, just a year after it was bought by a consortium for £2.2 million.

But Deputy Kuttelwascher believes that if the company was to go into liquidation or administration, there would be little chance of passengers affected getting the support they need to complete their journeys.

Deputy Kuttelwascher has long campaigned for a longer runway at Guernsey Airport. He believes that it would be better placed to cope with potential knock-on effects if the States had backed an extension, as larger planes would be able to land there.
