Islanders with norovirus symptoms asked to avoid Jersey hospital

People in Jersey are being asked to avoid the hospital if they have any norovirus symptoms.

Norovirus, also called the "winter vomiting bug", is a stomach bug that causes vomiting and diarrhoea.

It comes as pressures on Jersey’s hospital have forced it to be put on amber alert.

Norovirus can spread very easily.

Symptoms include:

  • Feeling sick (nausea)

  • Diarrhoea

  • Being sick (vomiting)

You may also have:

  • A high temperature of 38°C or above

  • A headache

  • Aching arms and legs

  • The symptoms start suddenly within 1-2 days of being infected

Due to cases on the island of a norovirus like illness, any relatives or outpatients with diarrhoea or vomiting are asked to not attend the Hospital to stop the spread of infection.
