Green transport plan published to help hit Jersey's carbon neutral target
Free travel for carers, car free days in town and bikeability training schemes are just some of the plans in Jersey's new sustainable transport policy.
The Sustainable Transport Policy is a plan to transform Jersey's transport infrastructure and change the way people use it.
The policy document states any further increase in the island's current transport system would be unsustainable and the entire transport system must be redesigned.
The plan includes:
Free travel for carers.
Introduce measures to cut congestion around Liberation station.
Find new ways for children to travel safely to school, including re-prioritising road space in town.
Roll out Bikeability training to every school.
Accelerate work on an Eastern Cycle Route
Encourage car and bike sharing schemes.
The plan is published on the same day Jersey's Government releases it's Carbon Neutral strategy for 2019, which sets out how the Island will address the climate emergency declared by the States Assembly earlier this year.
It says it will 'unleash the power of people across our Island and to make carbon neutrality the defining mission of our next decade'.
One of the main plans is to set up a citizens assembly which will to consider the scale of Jersey’s ambition for carbon neutrality and the deadlinefor meeting it.
