Islanders named in Queen's New Year Honours list
Channel Islanders have been named in the 2019 New Year Honours list by The Queen.
Three people from Guernsey and four people in Jersey have been recognised for their work.
Serena Guthrie MBE
Serena Guthrie has been made Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to sport.
Major Christopher Ayres (MBE)
Major Christopher Ayres has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to the armed forces. He's a Major in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and was nominated for his work as the Army Headquarter's lead logistics planner for the British Army's involvement in Exercise Trident Juncture 18, a large NATO exercise in Norway in October 2018.
David Edward de Hubie Swiffen (MBE)
David Edward de Hubie Swiffen has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to wellbeing and inter-faith dialogue in Guernsey.
Bryan Brehaut (BEM)
Bryan Brehaut will receive a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to young people in Guernsey through The Boys Brigade.
Stuart Trought (MBE)
Stuart Trought MBE has been honoured for services to Alderney. He served as the President of Alderney from 2011 until stepping down in May 2019.
Geoffrey Grime (OBE)
Geoffrey Grime OBE helped to set up Jersey Finance, was a Deputy of St Mary for three years and a Jurat.
He founded the Prostate Cancer Support Group after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Francis Laine (MBE)
Francis Laine received his MBE for services to the community through Silkworth Lodge and The Shelter Trust.
Stuart Mourant (MBE)
Stuart Mourant MBE first got involved with charity work after his granddaughter was born with Down Syndrome. Since he has been involved in Les Amis and Jersey Mencap.
