Plans for £1.5 million regeneration at La Vallette unveiled

The team chosen to regenerate the area of La Vallette in Guernsey have unveiled their £1.5 million plans at a public meeting.

Vive La Vallette plan to renovate the changing rooms, build a cafe and provide an outdoor public entertainment space on the spot where the current kiosk and changing rooms sit.

They were chosen by the Government earlier this year to regenerate the area as part of a wider Government scheme to upgrade certain areas in St Peter Port.

The group say they're operating as a charitable organisation and any money made will go back into the facility.

The group still needs to raise the funds for the project and plan to generate the money through donations and grants.

It is hoped the work will be completed for the Natwest Island Games in 2021.

Vive La Vallette and Guernsey's Government still need to agree on the terms of the lease of the land.

The responsibility of maintaining the Bathing Pools remains with the States, and the group say they will only proceed with work if they get a guarantee this will continue.

At the meeting, concerns were raised about parking in the area, with some people suggesting the 10-hour spaces should be reduced to a few hours to ensure parking is available.

The group say they plan to make the area accessible for people with disabilities and families. They also intend to offer a menu at the kiosk with an emphasis on healthy food.

The scheme will now be put forward for planning approval.
