St John's Church bells celebrate 40th anniversary

Celebrations have been taking place in Jersey to mark the 40th anniversary of a set of church bells.

The bells at St John's Church were installed on 16 November 1979 in front of watching crowds and have been ringing for Sunday services, weddings and christenings ever since.

The church tower remains one of only two on the island capable of change ringing, along with St Mark's Church in St Helier.

Islanders were invited to join in the celebrations and even try their hand at bell-ringing to mark the anniversary.
