Alderney's Gannets dying after being tangled in plastic
The threat of plastic pollution to wildlife in the Channel Islands is affecting thousands of gannets.
Les Etacs, off the coast of Alderney, sees 12,000 gannets every summer. Now, they are at risk of dying as a result of getting tangled in plastic.
For the first time ever the Alderney Wildlife Trust has recorded 53 gannets and chicks being entangled, with 34 of those dying because of it.
The birds that get stuck can be attacked by other birds, or as one autopsy showed the birds may starve to their deaths.
