Island rugby clubs yet to agree 2020 Siam Cup date
The Channel Islands' leading rugby clubs have yet to agree on a date for next year's Siam Cup, which is due to take place at Footes Lane in Guernsey.
Raiders' preferred date is Saturday 2 May, but that clashes with Jersey Reds' final home game of the season in the Championship, which is later than usual because of the Rugby World Cup.
Next year's hosts say they have looked at all possible dates between March and May - the month in which the fixture is traditionally played - and that that date is the "least-worst" option.
But the Guernsey club have suggested their island rivals have so far not accepted it because it would affect their selection of five professionals - a stipulation introduced four seasons ago to even up a contest Jersey had dominated in previous years.
Siam Cup day, one of the biggest events in the local sporting calendar, features four matches - men's firsts, seconds, vets, and the Women's Siam - with more than 150 players in action across them.
Jersey Reds, who are current holders of the Siam Cup itself, say they are still pursuing agreement over the date and will address the matter at a meeting of the club's board this week.
