Jersey Marina to undergo major refurbishment

A Jersey marina is due to get a major facelift under new plans.

Albert Pier and St Helier Marina will be developed over the next 18 months in a bid to modernise the harbour and attract more visitors to the island.

It forms part of Ports of Jersey's Harbour Masterplan

The harbour will be reconfigured to create room for more boats, with new 24 hour berthing pontoons being introduced along Albert Pier. The 40-year-old pilings and pontoon along the pier will also be replaced.

Work on the Albert Pier will begin towards the end of 2019 and is due for completion before the beginning of the new boating season. Redevelopment of St Helier Marina will begin in Autumn 2020.

7,500 yachts visited St Helier in 2018 but some companies fear that even under the proposed plans, the shortage of berthing facilities might be discouraging some people from visiting the island.

Sunseeker sells luxury boats and yachts. It worries that even the revised plans may not go far enough and could ultimately put people off buying a boat altogether.
