Petition against Jersey car parking charge changes reaches nearly 3,000 signatures

An online petitioncalling for a rethink on plans to extend car parking charges in Jersey has reached over 3,000 signatures.

The government has faced backlash over proposals to charge drivers to park between 7am and 6pm - an extra two hours to the current window of 8am to 5pm.

Politicians say it would generate an extra £700,000 for the public purse, under its plans to save £100 million over the next three years.

The petition will now require a ministerial response. If it hits 5,000 signatures, it will be considered for a debate in the States Assembly.
