Fresh calls to protect Les Écréhous after more berths built in Carteret

Plans to develop the port at Carteret have prompted fresh calls to protect the Les Écréhous, six miles off Jersey's coast.

Thousands of visitors already travel to site each year and there have already been warnings that it could take its toll on the area's wildlife.

However, conservationists fear that plans to build more berths for boats in Carteret in France could see yet more tourists coming to the area.

Kevin McIlwee from Jersey Marine Conservation says that more must be done to protect the reef and the species that live on it from the impacts of tourism.
