French stars steal show in weather-affected Super League Triathlon finale

French stars Vincent Luis and Cassandre Beaugrand took victory on a weather-affected final day at Super League Triathlon Jersey.

High winds led organisers to drop the bike legs from both the pro men's and women's races, that after the participation age group events had been called off altogether on Sunday morning.

Recently-crowned WTS champion Luis retained the title he won in St Helier in 2018, breaking clear from compatriot Pierre Le Corre to steal a march in the seven-stage 2019/20 SLT Championship.

With one athlete cut after each transition, Great Britain star Jonny Brownlee suffered a surprise elimination following the opening swim, with New Zealand's Hayden Wilde completing the men's podium.

In the women's race, Beaugrand dominated throughout to go one better than her second last year, winning from the USA's Katie Zaferes and Rachel Klamer of the Netherlands, with GB's Vicky Holland fourth.

It is the third time Jersey has hosted the event, which will return until 2022 subject to continued States backing.

Jersey's Ollie Turner and Guernsey's Josh Lewis both featured in Saturday's heats, but could not do enough to make it through to the final.
