Guernsey's first female Deputy Bailiff announced

Advocate Jessica Roland will become Guernsey's first female Deputy Bailiff.

The role was created in 1969 but up until now has only been filled by men.

Jessica Roland who is the Managing Partner of Mourant in Guernsey, has worked as an advocate in Guernsey and England.

She will succeed Deputy Bailiff Richard James McMahon who will become Bailiff in May 2020.

New Deputy Bailiffs are chosen following a recommendation from the Bailiff. This recommendation is shared with the Ministry of Justice and the Lord Chancellor, who then makes a recommendation to The Queen.

The Deputy Bailiff carries out judicial work and parliamentary duties.
