Jersey Heritage and Société Jersiaise have started a new fundraising campaign to help archaeologists return to the Ice Age La Cotte site at St Brelade.

A website dedicated to making the area safe for research to continue has now been set up.

The area was home to Neanderthals living in Jersey thousands of years ago. Its importance was first discovered in the 1880s and it has been researched ever since.

Construction is underway to make the cliffs safe and to protect the site from the sea. Work will be done to make the headland a stable dig site and a sea wall will also be created.

It is hoped archaeologists will be able to return there this summer.
