Guernsey set to stage biggest cricket tournament in a decade
While one cricket World Cup gathers momentum in England, a significant tournament for teams hoping to qualify for another gets underway in Guernsey on Saturday.
Denmark, Germany, Italy, Jersey and Norway join the hosts for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Final, with a place at the global qualifier for next year's T20 World Cup in Australia up for grabs.
It is the biggest cricket event to be hosted in Guernsey in a decade with the sides set to meet in a round-robin format from Saturday to Wednesday.
The six countries reached this stage after coming through the 18-team Europe Qualifier, which was held in the Netherlands in 2018.
Jersey won the equivalent tournament four years ago to progress to the final qualifier, where they finished 11th out of 14 teams.
This year’s tournament is being played across two venues, the KGV and College Field, with island rivals Guernsey and Jersey meeting on the opening morning.
