Jersey's cricketers retain T20I Inter Insular Cup with clean sweep over Guernsey
Jersey’s cricketers won 3-0 in Guernsey in the 2019 T20I Inter Insular Cup, the first series either island has played with full international status.
Friday’s opening game at College Field produced the most drama, requiring a super over to separate the two sides.
Guernsey recovered their innings to tie Jersey’s score of 128, and made a great start to the sudden-death finish, Lucas Barker hitting the first two balls for six.
But Jersey conceded just two runs from the final four balls, before Jonty Jenner sent Will Peatfield’s opening three deliveries for 14 as they completed a thrilling victory.
Jersey then posted two big totals in games two and three at the KGV on Saturday to win by 41 and 76 runs and match the clean sweep they inflicted on their rivals in their inaugural T20 series last year.
T20 matches involving the islands are now classed as full internationals, after the ICC - the sport’s governing body - extended the status to its 104 associate members.
Jersey captain Chuggy Perchard starred with the ball in game two, taking 5/17 - the 13th best figures in T20I history.
Nick Ferraby’s 81 not out was the weekend’s best score with the bat, while Dom Blampied was named player of the series for his 92 runs and six wickets across the three games.
The two sides are set to meet again at the KGV in the opening game of the World T20 Europe Final in less than two weeks.
The tournament, which is being staged in Guernsey for the first time, will see six sides - Jersey, Germany, Italy, Norway, Denmark and the hosts - battle it out for a place in the global qualifier for the next T20 World Cup in Australia in 2020.
