Dementia Awareness Week: Stories and support
Dementia is a condition that affects not just those who have it, but also their families.
As part of Dementia Awareness Week ITV have been speaking to one woman from Guernsey about how that diagnosis affected her mother, and those around her.
ITV News has been spending time at one care home in Guernsey that provides specialist care to try and enrich the lives of people living with dementia.
In the second part of our series we look at how the disease impacts the individual.
It is thought around 1,200 people in Guernsey and another 1,200 in Jersey are living with dementia, a disease which affects brain function and memory.
While specialist residential care and health programmes are important, charities say activities and interaction really help to stimulate patients.
