The Jersey property investment and development company, Le Masurier, has submitted a £70 million planning application for the Bath Street redevelopment.

It will cover two acres of central St Helier and include a new 122-bedroom Premier Inn, 145 residential apartments, car parking, shops, bars and restaurants.

There are plans for more green areas, pavement widening, street art and a new pedestrian street connecting the Millennium Town Park to the library.

Over 200 islanders attended a consultation which revealed the majority of people are in support of the Bath Street redevelopment.

The redevelopment is expected to create over 70 full time jobs in the construction industry in Jersey.

When plans were first mooted there were concerns from businesses based on the site that they would not be able to find alternative premises, and campaigners expressed their anger over the possible demolition of the 19th century townhouse.
