15% of women in Guernsey invited for breast screenings, and 10% in Jersey, did not turn up to their appointments.

Last year 6,318 women in Jersey underwent an examination, however this only accounts for 89% of those who were invited for the test.

Breast screening uses x-rays to look for breast cancers when they are too small to be seen or felt. The earlier breast cancer is found, the more successful the treatment.

In Jersey breast screening is carried out by female staff only and is free. Screenings are offered to all women aged between 50 and 69, because it's most effective in women aged 50 and over.

If you are aged between 50 and 69 in Jersey, you can register for breast screening online by completing a form. Islanders have to register in order to be called for screening every two years.

In Guernsey women who are registered with a GP, and are aged between 50 and 75, will be automatically invited for a screening every two years.
