Environmental campaigners urge politicians to take action on climate change
Environmental campaigners are to gather outside Jersey States to encourage politicians to take action on climate change.
Extinction Rebellion have staged demos in the Royal Square every day for the last 2 weeks.
It's in support of a proposition to make Jersey carbon neutral by 2030 put forward by Deputy Robert Ward.
It asks whether States Members believe there is a climate emergency likely to have profound effects in Jersey, and that to deal with it the following actions should be taken:
Jersey should aim to be carbon-neutral by 2030, and the Council of Ministers should present a plan to the States by the end of 2019.
The Council of Ministers is requested to publish a climate impact assessment in its forthcoming Government Plan.
Climate change is included as a standing item on the agenda of the Council of Ministers.
