Seb Priaulx tops podium on British GT debut

Guernsey's Sebastian Priaulx topped the podium in race two at Oulton Park to cap a stunning debut in the British GT Championship.

He and team-mate Scott Maxwell brought their Ford Mustang home in first place in the second of Easter Monday's two one-hour races.

It was after Priaulx had set a new GT4 track record to qualify on pole.

In the opening race of the season, Priaulx had seen his progress halted by contact, eventually finishing 13th in the class.

The results leave the pair joint top of the overall GT4 standings with seven events still to come.

Jersey's Jack Butel, who was also making his first appearance in the championship, picked up a pair of sixth-placed finishes in the GT4 Silver class to end the weekend 10th overall.

He is sharing an Optimum Motorsport Aston Martin with team-mate Connor O’Brien, after making the switch from the UK LMP3 Cup this season.

The 23-year-old has been accepted onto the Aston Martin Young Driver Academy programme this year, which will see him compete for a factory drive with hopefuls from around the world.

The two Channel Island drivers now head to Snetterton for rounds three and four of the championship on 19-20 May.
