Merging Liberation Square and the Weighbridge is 'a vanity project' and the money could be better spent within Jersey's Infrastructure Department.

That's the view of Deputy Jeremy Macon who is lodging a proposition to try and stop any planned development.

He's asking States members to block the proposed project and it's further £2 million budget allocation and to re-allocate the money to improve pedestrian safety and traffic-calming measures.

The £3 million project will see Liberation Square merged with the Weighbridge.

Organisers want the work completed in time for the 75th anniversary Liberation Day celebrations in 2020.

It would see the current road which divides the two current spaces closed.
