The head of Jersey's Consumer Council has said he has been contacted by several parents whose children have been charged £50 for having 'too big' hand luggage on Flybe.

Carl Walker has said there needs to be consistency regarding the amount of hand luggage allowed.

It follows allegations that a 12 year old girl had to pay £50 for her hand luggage in Jersey but it was deemed the correct size on her return flight from Doncaster.

Mr Walker said he witnessed upset passengers at Jersey Airport last week, who were greeted by ground staff with tape measures and card machines when trying to board with hand luggage.

Over social media, the head of the Consumer Council said parents had been contacting him to show their frustration.

In response, Flybe have said it is very concerned about the allegations and has investigated it as a matter of urgency.

The company went onto say they apologise for the distress experienced however their agents correctly carried out their duties to the airline and did everything possible to resolve the situation in a satisfactory and sympathetic way.
