The Constable of St Helier is calling for People's Park to be ruled out as a location for Jersey's new hospital.

The States will next week debate a plan by Deputy Russell Labey to stop the current location on Gloucester Street being the official approved site. That follows a decision by the Environment Minister to reject a planning application to build a new hospital there.

Now, Constable Simon Crowcroft wants to use next week's debate to protect People's Park and other green sites in town.

People's Park made the shortlist back in 2015, leading to a high profile campaign by islanders and some politicians which eventually saw it removed from the list.

Constable Crowcroft says he's concerned that the recent planning refusal, and next week's debate, could see People's Park returning to a new shortlist.

He's also looking to protect the Parade Gardens, Victoria Park, Lower Park and Westmount Gardens from development.
