The husband of Ana Maria Rebelo has been found not guilty of her murder at Jersey's Royal Court.

After a four day trial, Jersey's Bailiff Sir William Bailhache delivered the verdict this afternoon. There were claps from the gallery and tears of joy from 60-year-old Alfredo Rebelo as he was acquitted of the crime.

51-year-old Ana Rebelo was found dead at her home in Victoria Street in St Helier on 4th April 2017.

Prosecuting, Crown Advocate Howard Sharp told the court this week that Mrs Rebelo had been strangled by a pair of her daughter's leggings following an argument with her husband.

The defence lawyer, Advocate Julian Gollop, claimed that Mrs Rebelo had taken her own life.
