Alderney politicians: No more delays to work on the airport runway

Alderney politicians are demanding there be no more delays to work on the airport's runway.

It comes ahead of a vote on the project in the States of Guernsey this week.

The States Trading and Supervisory Board is asking deputies to approvea mid-range option to improve the runway, which will cost around £12 million in total.

The project, which is backed by the Economic Development Committee,will see the asphalt runway resurfaced and restored to its regulationwidth, from 18m to 23m, an installation of central lights down therunway and improvements to other lighting and drainage.

The taxiway and apron will also be resurfaced, with completion being scheduled for 2021.

However, the release of money for construction is subject to P&R agreeinga final business case for the project.

Another politician argued that the business case for the project had already been proven.
