Jersey scraps fee for EU nationals to stay after Brexit
EU nationals living in Jersey will not have to pay a fee to remain living in the island after Brexit.
On Monday Theresa May announced that the £65 fee for the UK's EU Settlement Scheme would be removed.
Jersey's Home Affairs Minister says scrapping the £25 fee for the island's Settled Status scheme will ensure EU nationals here are not at a disadvantage.
3.5 million Europe citizens in the UK will still have to apply for 'settled status' in order to remain in the country after the UK leaves the EU Customs and Immigration officials in Jersey estimate that 20,000 residents from countries including Portugal, Poland and France will have to apply for its scheme, which opens next month.
The reversal was part of Theresa May's "Plan B" after the massive defeat of her Brexit plan in the House of Commons last week.
