Members of the National Education Union will be balloted in the coming days about potential strike action in the New Year.

Last week the States voted against using reserve funds to settle the ongoing pay dispute, with 21 votes to 20.

Tracey Vallois, the former States Employment Board chair, who has stepped down from the role, abstained from the vote.

The NEU's regional secretary, Andy Wooley, told ITV News that her abstention was "a disappointment" and that the union has been left with little choice but to ballot its members for industrial action.
