Hospital locations to be reconsidered again

The location for Jersey's new hospital could be reviewed again, after a report recommended reconsidering two potential sites that had previously been discounted.

The Hospital Policy Development Board was set up to review the decision-making process that resulted in the existing Gloucester Street site being chosen.

The board found that the Waterfront and Overdale remained viable alternatives.

People's Park, which was one of the previous options, was the favourite among surveyed staff.

A third of the 22% of staff that responded to the survey supported a build here but the site has now been dropped because of concerns over it's size.

The report also said that although a new hospital can be built by 2028, full completion will take a further 6 months - and reconsidering other sites will create yet more delay.

The findings will now go before the Council of Ministers and the whole States Assembly for debate which is scheduled for January.

The current Health Minister, Deputy Richard Renouf, who supports the rebuild on the existing site, said he hopes a "collective view" can be reached between politicians on where to build the new hospital.
